Anniversary in Forks!

So, at the suggestion of Jared's aunt LaVonne, we spent our 10th wedding anniversary in Forks, Washington this year, the setting for the book Twilight.  Can I just say that "podunk" doesn't even begin to cover it, but we had fun anyway.  (Heck, two nights away from the kids ANYWHERE is bliss!)  We got a kick out of how much this town is capitalizing on Stephenie Meyer's books.  Every motel (there aren't any real hotels) in town had something Twilight.  The one we stayed in had actual Twilight rooms painted red and black and decorated with Twilight posters.  We even had an Edward nightlight!  Every restaurant had some kind of Twilight item on their menu.  There was Bella Berry Pie (which was actually really good!), Bellasagne, Jacob Blackberry Cobbler, and a whole slew of things I don't remember.  A store called "Dazzled by Twilight" has gone up, carrying nothing but Twilight merchandise and offering Twilight tours through town.  I can't imagine that lasting more than 10 minutes, but hey, if people are buying... We drove up to town on Friday, spent an hour Saturday morning exploring the town (that was on foot, including stopping for lunch, and shopping in a few stores), then we visited La Push, and drove on to Port Angeles.  It was fun, but we were so ready to get back to civilization by Sunday.

I'm so impressed that your hubby was willing to spend your anniversary in Forks--what a guy! And the town has really beefed up the Twilight tourism since I was there a little over a year ago. I hear ya on the podunk town; that is seriously one tiny town.
